Pill power: oral antibiotics may match IVs for tough bone infections

NCT ID NCT05699174

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking antibiotics by mouth is as effective as receiving them through an IV for treating infected bone fractures that haven't healed properly. About 250 adults with this condition will be randomly assigned to 6 weeks of either oral or IV antibiotics, alongside surgery. The goal is to see if the oral option reduces hospital readmissions and complications while being easier for patients.
