Blood test may replace painful spinal tap for Alzheimer's diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07071649

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood test measuring a protein called p-Tau217 can accurately diagnose Alzheimer's disease. Currently, diagnosis requires a spinal tap to test spinal fluid, which is invasive and uncomfortable. Researchers will compare the blood test results with the standard spinal fluid tests in 40 adults suspected of having Alzheimer's. If successful, this could lead to a simpler, less painful way to diagnose the disease.
