New hope for lung injury patients: pirfenidone trial targets radiation and immune damage

Summary
This study tests if the drug pirfenidone can help people with lung injury caused by radiation therapy, with or without additional lung inflammation from immunotherapy. About 298 adults aged 18-75 with certain cancers who received chest radiation are being recruited. The trial compares two doses of pirfenidone to a placebo over 24 weeks, measuring lung function and survival.
