New scanner aims to spot lung cancer more clearly
NCT ID NCT06440616
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new type of CT scanner (photon counting CT) that provides extra image details, like color maps of tissues. The goal is to see if these detailed images help doctors diagnose lung cancer more accurately and reduce the number of extra tests needed. About 1000 adults suspected of having lung cancer will take part, and their scans will be read either with or without the extra image information.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Photon counting CT scanner with spectral imaging
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make lung cancer diagnosis more accurate and reduce the need for follow-up scans and procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The new scanner may not significantly improve outcomes or reduce costs in practice.
