Can exercise and music beat dementia? a new study targets At-Risk veterans
NCT ID NCT06451874
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study explores whether personalized exercise and music-based therapy can help prevent dementia in older veterans who show early warning signs. Participants have motoric cognitive risk syndrome, meaning they walk slowly and have memory or concentration concerns. The study tests two treatments—functional power training and music-based digital therapy—alone or combined, to see if they are feasible and acceptable. The goal is to develop tailored, non-drug strategies to keep the brain healthy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Functional Power Training and Music-Based Digital Therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could point toward personalized, non-drug treatments to delay or prevent dementia in at-risk older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study with only 54 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The treatments are behavioral and may not work for everyone.
