Can early walking speed up recovery after ankle tendon surgery?
NCT ID NCT06593912
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether starting gentle exercises with a special brace 3 weeks after peroneal tendon surgery leads to less pain and better function than the standard 6 weeks in a cast. Fifty adults in Sweden who have surgery for a torn peroneal tendon will be randomly assigned to one of the two recovery plans. Researchers will measure pain, calf strength, and ankle movement over two years to see which approach works best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Early functional training with Air Stirrup brace vs. standard cast immobilization
- What this could lead to
- If early training works better, it could lead to faster recovery and less pain after peroneal tendon surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The two approaches may show no clear difference.
