This study looked at whether taking ibuprofen for eight days after hip or knee replacement surgery is safe. Over 2,900 adults were randomly given either ibuprofen or a placebo. Researchers tracked serious problems like heart attack, stroke, blood clots, kidney failure, and bleeding for 90 days after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ibuprofen
What this could lead to
If ibuprofen is found safe, it could confirm a common painkiller as a standard option after joint replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a completed Phase 4 trial, but results are not yet published. Ibuprofen can still cause stomach ulcers, kidney problems, or bleeding in some people.
