New implant mimics natural tooth movement – early human trial begins
NCT ID NCT07302581
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early study tests a new type of dental implant that uses the leftover ligament tissue from a pulled tooth to help the implant bond with the jawbone. Six adults needing a single tooth extraction will get the implant right away and be followed for 48 weeks. Researchers will check if the implant integrates well and can move like a real tooth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Periodontal ligament-integrated dental implant
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new type of dental implant that feels and functions more like a natural tooth, potentially improving comfort and oral health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The implant might not integrate properly or could cause complications like infection or implant failure.
