Can vitamins boost gum bone healing? new study tests simple addition to standard treatment
NCT ID NCT05499598
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether adding vitamins A and C to a platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) treatment helps repair bone defects in the gums. Twenty-eight adults with advanced gum disease received a minimally invasive surgical technique with PRF, with or without the vitamins. The goal was to see if the vitamin mix improves bone fill and gum attachment over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-rich fibrin with vitamins A and C
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to repair gum bone damage and improve dental health without major surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Adding vitamins may not provide extra benefit over standard treatment.
