New study tests simple exercises to stop leakage when you laugh or sneeze

NCT ID NCT07661264

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test two different pelvic floor exercise techniques in 40 women aged 30-40 with stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine during activities like coughing or exercise). One group will do exercises in gradually harder positions, while the other will use gradually heavier weights. Researchers will measure muscle strength and bladder support using a vaginal pressure sensor and ultrasound. The goal is to see which method works better for strengthening pelvic floor muscles and reducing leaks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

pelvic floor loading techniques (graduated positions and graduated weights)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a simple, non-surgical exercise approach to reduce stress urinary incontinence symptoms.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The exercises may not provide significant or lasting improvement.
