Monthly chat group may ease isolation for young transplant patients

NCT ID NCT06704243

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a monthly online peer support group for young adults (ages 18-39) who had received a stem cell transplant. The group met for one hour over six months, led by a nurse and social worker. The goal was to see if the program was practical and helpful for reducing anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation. Only 13 people took part, so results are very preliminary.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Peer support group (behavioural intervention)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to improve emotional well-being and social connection for young adults recovering from stem cell transplant.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, completed feasibility study with only 13 participants. It was not designed to prove the support group actually reduces anxiety or depression, only that it might be acceptable and practical to run.
