MRNA vaccine takes on liver cancer in tiny early trial
NCT ID NCT07053072
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early study tests a PD-1 mRNA vaccine in 9 adults with advanced liver cancer that has not responded to standard treatments. The vaccine is given as weekly shots for four weeks, then a fifth shot a month later. The main goal is to check safety, but researchers will also see if the vaccine helps control the cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PD-1 mRNA LNP vaccine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for advanced liver cancer that has stopped responding to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 9 people, so it is mainly checking safety. The vaccine may not shrink tumors or improve survival, and side effects are unknown.
