Could a simple blood test spot insulin trouble early in PCOS?
NCT ID NCT06793098
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is measuring three proteins (kisspeptin, ghrelin, and zonulin) in the blood of women with and without PCOS to see if they can serve as early warning signs of insulin resistance. Researchers will compare levels among three groups: women with PCOS and insulin resistance, women with PCOS but no insulin resistance, and women without PCOS. The goal is to find a simple blood test that could help detect metabolic problems earlier.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test to detect insulin resistance early in women with PCOS.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 100 participants. The proteins measured may not prove to be reliable markers, and results may not apply to all women.
