Heart artery procedure plus drugs may boost heart function in ischemic cardiomyopathy

NCT ID NCT06930092

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two approaches for people with ischemic cardiomyopathy (weak heart muscle due to blocked arteries) and multiple blocked vessels. One group gets optimal medical therapy alone, while the other also gets a heart artery procedure (PCI) guided by imaging and pressure measurements. The goal is to see if the combination better improves the heart's pumping ability. The trial plans to enroll 158 adults with a low ejection fraction (under 40%).

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with imaging guidance

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that combining PCI with medication helps restore heart function more than medication alone in people with ischemic cardiomyopathy.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small trial (158 participants) and not yet in a late phase. The benefits may be modest, and PCI carries risks like bleeding or vessel damage.
