Parental distress may undermine treatment in children with recurrent brain tumors
NCT ID NCT07660458
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study investigates whether the emotional distress of parents—such as depression, anxiety, or trauma—affects how well children with recurrent medulloblastoma follow their treatment plans. Researchers will follow 450 parent-child pairs across four hospitals, measuring parental distress through questionnaires and tracking treatment adherence over 12 months. The goal is to identify which types of distress most strongly predict poor adherence, which could inform future support programs for families facing this devastating disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If parental distress is found to predict poor adherence, this could lead to targeted psychological support programs for caregivers, potentially improving treatment outcomes for children.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The results may not apply to all families, and other factors could influence adherence.
