First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare two ultrasound-guided nerve blocks—paravertebral plane block and erector spinae plane block—for pain relief after total abdominal hysterectomy. Forty-eight women aged 30-60 will receive one of the two blocks before surgery. The main goal is to see which block reduces the need for morphine in the first 24 hours after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could lead to less pain and less need for strong painkillers after hysterectomy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 48 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and nerve blocks carry rare risks like infection or bleeding.
