Could a shorter antibiotic regimen cut hospital stays after pancreatic surgery?

NCT ID NCT04329039

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at people having a Whipple procedure, a major surgery for pancreatic diseases. A common complication is a leak from the pancreas, which can lengthen hospital stays. The trial compares giving antibiotics for a shorter time along with a drug called octreotide versus a longer course of antibiotics alone, to see if the shorter approach reduces leaks and gets people home sooner.
