New pain scale could cut unnecessary opioid use after surgery

NCT ID NCT07310953

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a new pain scale that considers both pain level and ability to move can better guide when to give extra painkillers after surgery. About 76 adults having scheduled surgery will be randomly assigned to receive rescue pain medication based on either the standard pain scale or the new combined scale. The goal is to see if the new approach reduces unnecessary opioid use while still controlling pain effectively.
