Could a simple injection before surgery cut Post-Op pain?
NCT ID NCT07626463
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a combination of a numbing drug (ropivacaine) and an anti-inflammatory steroid (diprospan) into the incision site before laparoscopic surgery can reduce pain better than the numbing drug alone. About 150 adults having gallbladder, appendix, or hernia surgery will take part. The goal is to see if this approach lowers the need for rescue painkillers and improves recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ropivacaine and diprospan (a combination of a local anesthetic and a corticosteroid)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a simple, safe way to reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after common laparoscopic surgeries.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (150 people) comparing two drugs, so results may not apply to everyone. The added benefit of diprospan may be small or come with extra risks like infection or delayed healing.
