Which nerve block eases gallbladder surgery pain better?
NCT ID NCT07751770
First seen Aug 07, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026
Summary
This trial compares two ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for pain relief after laparoscopic gallbladder removal. Adults having this surgery will receive one of two blocks—either the modified thoracoabdominal nerve block or the erector spinae plane block—before waking from anesthesia. The study measures pain intensity, opioid use, and side effects over the first 24 hours after surgery to see if one technique offers better pain control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- bupivacaine
- What this could lead to
- If one nerve block proves better, it could become the preferred method for managing pain after gallbladder surgery, reducing opioid use and speeding recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage comparison, so results may not apply to all patients. Nerve blocks carry risks like bleeding, infection, or nerve damage, though rare.
