Simple injection before surgery could cut Post-Op pain
NCT ID NCT07591233
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a combination of a local anesthetic (ropivacaine) and a steroid (triamcinolone) into the incision site before laparoscopic surgery can reduce pain better than the anesthetic alone. The trial will enroll 150 adults undergoing gallbladder, appendix, or hernia repair. The goal is to see if this simple addition can lower pain scores and the need for rescue pain medication in the first 48 hours after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ropivacaine plus triamcinolone
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a simple, safe way to reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after common laparoscopic surgeries.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-stage trial. The added benefit of triamcinolone may be small or not exist, and there could be unknown side effects from the combination.
