Hernia surgery pain relief showdown: injection vs block

NCT ID NCT06894420

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study compares two methods to reduce pain after laparoscopic hernia surgery: injecting anesthetic into the surgical area versus a nerve block (TAP block) guided by ultrasound. Sixty adults undergoing hernia repair will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. Researchers will measure pain scores and how much extra pain medication is needed, aiming to find which method offers better comfort and faster recovery.

What this could lead to
If this study shows one method is clearly better, it could lead to improved pain management and faster recovery after hernia surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. Both methods are already used, so no major breakthrough is expected.
