NCT ID NCT07285083

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding dexmedetomidine to the standard painkiller bupivacaine in a nerve block (TAP block) provides better pain relief after abdominal surgery. 80 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either the combo or bupivacaine alone. Pain levels, sedation, and side effects will be tracked for 12 hours after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bupivacaine with dexmedetomidine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide better pain control after abdominal surgery with fewer side effects and less need for extra painkillers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (80 people) comparing two pain-block methods. The added drug may not improve pain relief or could cause more sedation or side effects.
