First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 130 children aged 10-15 who needed root canal treatment. Half had the tooth length measured with an electronic device (apex locator) and half with digital X-rays. The goal was to see which method caused less pain after the procedure. Pain was recorded at several time points over a week.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Electronic apex locator (Root ZX) and digital radiography

What this could lead to

If one method consistently causes less pain, dentists may adopt it to make root canals more comfortable for children.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center study. Pain is subjective and results may not apply to all children or other dental procedures.
