Which pain block works best for kids after hypospadias repair?

NCT ID NCT07286786

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 86 children aged 1-7 years having hypospadias repair. Researchers compared two pain-block methods: a sacral erector spinae plane block and a caudal epidural block. Both used the same numbing medicine. Pain was measured for 24 hours after surgery to see which block worked better.

What this could mean

Active substance

bupivacaine

What this could lead to

If one block proves better, it could improve pain control and recovery for children undergoing this common surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study. Results may not apply to all children or other surgeries. Both blocks are already used, so no major breakthrough is expected.
