New pain block could ease hernia surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT07290881

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks for pain relief after inguinal hernia surgery: the standard ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric block and a newer anterior iliac block. Researchers want to see which provides longer pain relief and higher patient satisfaction. The trial will enroll 60 adults aged 18–65 who are having elective hernia surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

nerve block (anterior iliac block or ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric block)

What this could lead to

If one block works better, it could lead to more effective pain control and less need for strong painkillers after hernia surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The newer block may not be safer or more effective than the standard one.
