First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding a second nerve block (rectus sheath block) to a standard chest wall block (pectointercostal fascial plane block) could better control pain after heart surgery. 62 adults having planned heart surgery through a breastbone incision were enrolled. The goal was to see if the combined blocks lowered pain scores, reduced opioid use, and improved breathing recovery.
