New pain block may ease circumcision recovery for kids

NCT ID NCT07321717

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new pain-blocking method (sacral erector spinae plane block) against the standard penile block for children having circumcision. Sixty children aged 1 to 12 will receive one of the two blocks before surgery. Researchers will measure pain levels and how much extra pain medicine is needed in the first 24 hours after the procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a sacral block is a better option for managing pain after circumcision in children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 children, so results may not apply to all. The new block may not be more effective than the standard one.
