A new nerve block could transform Kids' Post-Surgery pain relief
NCT ID NCT07762339
First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two pain-relief techniques for children aged 1 to 7 undergoing orchiopexy (surgery to correct an undescended testicle). One method is a caudal block, a common injection near the tailbone; the other is an ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block, a newer approach targeting nerves in the back. Researchers will measure pain scores, how long relief lasts, and any side effects during the first 24 hours after surgery to see if the newer block works as well or better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this nerve block could offer a safer or more reliable way to manage pain in children after testicular surgery, potentially reducing the need for opioid painkillers.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage comparison, so results may not apply broadly. Nerve blocks carry risks like infection, bleeding, or nerve damage, though serious complications are rare.
