Heart surgery pain breakthrough? local block could slash opioid need

NCT ID NCT06028126

Summary

This study tested whether a local anesthetic block, given through small tubes near the breastbone, could reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers after open-heart surgery. Researchers compared the anesthetic to a saltwater placebo in 340 patients. The main goal was to see if this method lowered total opioid use and improved pain control in the first few days after surgery.
