Could longer infusions make chemo safer for frail patients?
NCT ID NCT05183126
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether giving the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel over a longer period (2-3 hours instead of 1 hour) can help cancer patients with low muscle mass achieve safer drug levels. Researchers will compare drug concentrations in 22 women with breast, stomach, or esophageal cancer. The goal is to see if adjusting infusion time based on muscle mass normalizes exposure to the drug.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Paclitaxel (Taxol)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to safer and more effective dosing of paclitaxel for cancer patients with low muscle mass.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase pharmacokinetic study with only 22 participants. It focuses on drug levels, not direct treatment outcomes, so benefits for patients are uncertain.
