Heart surgery monitor under scrutiny: is it necessary?

Summary
This study looks at whether using a special heart monitor (pulmonary artery catheter) during open heart surgery is necessary. About 1600 adults having heart surgery will be randomly assigned to either get the monitor or not. Researchers will compare how well they recover, focusing on days spent alive and at home in the first month after surgery.
