New strategy may let BRCA carriers delay menopause while cutting cancer risk
NCT ID NCT01907789
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looks at three approaches for women with BRCA gene mutations who are at high risk for ovarian cancer: regular screening, removing both ovaries and fallopian tubes at once, or removing only the fallopian tubes first and the ovaries later. The goal is to see if delaying ovary removal helps women avoid early menopause while still lowering cancer risk. About 80 premenopausal women aged 30-47 are taking part.
