Can a mesh shield ovarian cancer patients from painful hernias?
NCT ID NCT07676370
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether placing a surgical mesh during abdominal closure can prevent incisional hernias in women undergoing ovarian cancer surgery. It also examines if a negative pressure wound dressing reduces infection risk. Participants are randomly assigned to one of four groups: mesh plus standard dressing, mesh plus negative pressure dressing, standard closure plus standard dressing, or standard closure plus negative pressure dressing. The goal is to find the best way to close the abdomen after surgery to avoid complications.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Prophylactic mesh placement and negative pressure wound therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could reduce the risk of incisional hernia after ovarian cancer surgery, improving recovery and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 152 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Mesh placement carries risks like infection or mesh-related complications.
