Summary

This trial aims to find out whether a standard exercise program (Otago) or a specialized balance training that engages multiple senses (multisensory integration) is more effective at improving balance and walking in older adults with type 2 diabetes. Participants, aged 65 to 75, will be split into three groups: one doing Otago exercises, one doing multisensory training, and a control group receiving only standard neuropathy care. Over eight weeks, researchers will measure changes in balance, gait speed, and fall risk to see which approach offers the greatest benefit.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Otago exercise program or multisensory integration training, each combined with conventional neuropathy treatment
What this could lead to
If one program proves superior, it could become a recommended therapy to reduce fall risk and improve mobility in older adults with diabetic neuropathy.
What could go wrong
The trial is relatively small and early-stage, so results may not apply broadly. Exercise programs require adherence, and individual responses can vary.
