Can Hands-On therapy ease your aching neck and head?
NCT ID NCT06471426
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) — a gentle, hands-on therapy — can reduce muscle stiffness, improve jaw motion, and ease pain in people with chronic neck pain and headaches. Thirty adults aged 19 to 65 will receive OMT and undergo various measurements like ultrasound, motion capture, and pain pressure tests. The goal is to see if OMT can help the muscles and joints in the head, neck, and jaw work better together.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) — hands-on techniques including myofascial release, cranial manipulation, and sacral articulation
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a drug-free way to ease chronic neck pain and headaches by improving muscle and joint function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants and no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The treatment is generally low-risk but may not provide lasting relief.
