Weight loss and exercise may stop knee arthritis before it starts
NCT ID NCT05946044
First seen Jul 23, 2026 · Last updated Jul 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a 48-month program of dietary weight loss, exercise, and weight maintenance can prevent knee osteoarthritis in women aged 50 and older who have obesity and no or infrequent knee pain. Participants are randomly assigned to the diet-and-exercise program or an attention control group. The study uses MRI scans to track changes in knee structure, and also measures pain, mobility, and quality of life.
