New study offers hope for rectal cancer patients: could chemoradiotherapy replace surgery?
NCT ID NCT07483060
First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study is for people with early-stage rectal cancer. It tests whether using chemoradiotherapy (a combination of chemotherapy and radiation) can completely eliminate the tumor, allowing patients to safely avoid surgery and keep their rectum. Participants can choose between standard surgery or the chemoradiotherapy approach, followed by close monitoring. The goal is to see if this less invasive option is safe and effective for controlling the cancer long-term.
