Summary

This early-phase study tests whether a short course of radiation followed by chemotherapy can shrink tumors enough to avoid surgery in people with stage II-III rectal cancer. The goal is to preserve the rectum and improve quality of life. About 25 adults with locally advanced rectal cancer that has not spread will receive the treatment and be monitored for tumor response.
