Could a simple drink of water replace IVs for kidney protection?

NCT ID NCT07459413

Summary

This study tests whether drinking water is as effective as receiving intravenous (IV) fluids at preventing kidney damage in emergency room patients who need CT scans with contrast dye. Researchers will enroll about 200 adults with reduced kidney function and randomly assign them to either drink specific amounts of water or receive standard IV fluids before and after their scan. The main goal is to see if both methods work equally well to prevent a sudden drop in kidney function, which is a known risk of these common scans.
