Pill vs. IV drip: major trial tests simpler treatment for stubborn bone infections

NCT ID NCT05699174

Summary

This study is testing whether taking antibiotic pills by mouth for 6 weeks works as well as receiving antibiotics through an IV drip to treat infected bone fractures that have not healed after surgery. It will involve 250 adults who have this complication. The goal is to see if the simpler oral treatment is just as effective at preventing re-infection, avoiding amputation, and getting the bone to heal, while also being easier for patients and potentially less costly.
