AI could predict dental surgery risks, study hopes
NCT ID NCT07461324
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This observational study will follow 3000 adults having oral surgery to see how often complications like infections or nerve damage occur. Researchers will collect patient and surgery details, plus surgeon predictions, to build an AI tool that might one day help prevent these problems. Participants get standard care and fill out short questionnaires.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple AI tool that helps surgeons predict and prevent complications like infections or nerve injuries after oral surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It collects data to build a prediction model, so it won't directly improve outcomes yet. The AI tool is still in development and may not work as hoped.
