Scientists hunt for hidden parasites in gum disease patients

NCT ID NCT07551115

First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026

Summary

This study checks how often two tiny parasites (Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax) are found in the mouths of 120 adults with or without gum disease. Researchers will collect saliva and plaque samples and look at them under a microscope. The goal is to learn if these parasites are linked to gum inflammation and damage, which could help dentists better understand and treat gum problems.
