Simple meals may protect bones: study tests dairy and banana against bone loss

NCT ID NCT07056322

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether small meals containing dairy or banana can reduce bone breakdown in postmenopausal women with osteopenia (low bone density). Thirteen women will eat five different test meals or fast, then have blood samples taken over six hours to measure markers of bone loss. The goal is to find a simple, non-drug way to support bone health and prevent osteoporosis.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

dairy and banana meals

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary strategy to help slow bone loss and reduce the risk of osteoporosis without medication.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study (13 participants) looking at short-term blood markers, not actual bone fractures. The results may not translate to long-term bone health or apply to a broader population.
