NCT ID NCT02799004
First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study followed 761 adults who were sent home from the emergency room with a prescription for opioid painkillers for acute pain. Researchers called patients at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months to ask how many pills they took, how well their pain was controlled, what side effects they had, and whether they showed signs of addiction. The goal is to learn the smallest amount of opioids needed for different injuries, so doctors can prescribe safer amounts in the future.
