New anesthesia method aims to ditch opioids for teen back surgery

NCT ID NCT07389096

Summary

This study is comparing two types of anesthesia for teenagers having surgery to correct scoliosis (curved spine). One method uses a non-opioid drug called dexmedetomidine, while the other uses the standard opioid, fentanyl. Researchers want to see if the opioid-free method controls pain during and after surgery just as well, with potentially fewer side effects.
