Could some breast cancer patients skip surgery? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07357948
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether women with triple-negative breast cancer who have a complete response to chemo-immunotherapy can safely skip breast and lymph node surgery. Half of the 150 participants will receive standard care including surgery, while the other half will have no surgery. The goal is to see if avoiding surgery leads to similar cancer control with fewer side effects and better quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- omission of surgery
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could allow some women with triple-negative breast cancer to avoid surgery after chemo-immunotherapy, reducing complications and improving quality of life while maintaining cancer control.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 2 trial with only 150 participants, so results are preliminary. Skipping surgery might increase the risk of cancer returning in the breast or lymph nodes, and the approach may not work for everyone.
