Fish oil Face-Off: EPA vs. DHA for better heart health
NCT ID NCT06494488
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early study is testing two types of fish oil—EPA and DHA—to see how they affect blood clotting and cholesterol in people with high triglycerides. Eighty participants will take one of the two oils for a month and have their blood tested. The goal is to learn which oil might be better for heart health, but it's too early to draw firm conclusions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fish oil (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help clarify which type of fish oil is better for heart health in people with high cholesterol.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small study (80 people) that only looks at blood markers, not actual heart attacks or strokes. Results may not lead to clear treatment changes.
