People on maintenance hemodialysis face a high risk of heart disease, and standard cholesterol drugs often fail to help. This trial tests whether high-dose fish oil (4 grams daily for 8 weeks) can improve the function of HDL, the 'good' cholesterol, which may become faulty in kidney failure. Forty adults on dialysis will take part in a crossover study, with each person receiving fish oil and a period without it.
