Targeted pill trial offers hope for advanced breast cancer patients with genetic flaws

NCT ID NCT03344965

Summary

This study is testing whether the drug olaparib can help control metastatic breast cancer in patients whose tumors have specific mutations in DNA repair genes. The pill works by blocking a protein that helps cancer cells fix their DNA, which may cause the cancer cells to die. Researchers are enrolling 114 patients with advanced breast cancer that has spread and who have not had more than two prior chemotherapy treatments for their metastatic disease.
